Emily M. Capece

WomanSong is proud to announce the hiring of our new director, Emily M. Capece. Emily was unanimously elected by the womanSong membership in August of 2007. We were astounded by her musicianship, her focus and her enthusiasm. She always comes to rehearsals totally prepared and gives 100%. Her upbeat attitude combined with her eclectic choral experience are bringing womanSong into our second decade of exceptional choral performance.

She has a Masters of Music in Music Education and Choral Conducting with Distinction from Westminster Choir College in Princeton New Jersey where she was also Editor of Visions of Research in Music Education. Her BA in Vocal Performance was received Cum Laude from Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio, as well as her BME in Music Education.

In 1998 she studied abroad at the Institute for the International Education of Students in Vienna, Austria, concentrating on vocal performance and music theory. Ms. Capece was the 2005 recipient of the National Endowment for the Humanities Educator’s Grant for the summer institute “Mozart’s Worlds” in Vienna.

Ms. Capece has teaching certificates in Virginia and Ohio, as well as for the Department of Defense Dependent Schools.

Most recently she was director of the training choir for the Princeton Girlchoir. Other teaching positions include John Witherspoon Middle School in Princeton, Dominican Academy High School in New York and the Carl Sandburg Middle School in Alexandria, Virginia. For two years she taught music and choirs at the Zukeran Elementary School in Okinawa, Japan.

Organizational involvement includes Music Educators National Conferences, American Choral Director’s Association, Dalcroze Society of America and Delta Micron Music Fraternity where she was the Omicron Alpha Chapter president from 1998 to 2000.

Her performance experience includes Spoleto Festival, the Westminster Choir, the Westminster Symphonic Choir, The Dessoff Choir of New York, The Glass Menagerie of New York, The Washington Chorus of Washington, DC and The Fairfax Choral Society of Fairfax, Virginia.

She has performed lead roles in The Pirates of Penzance, The Magic Flute, Postcards from Morocco, Hello Dolly, Saturday Night, Scrooge, Guys and Dolls, South Pacific and Oliver!
